Education infrastructure
Tweyambe Secondary School is located in the Kagera region in north-western Tanzania, near the town of Bukoba on Lake Victoria. For many pupils from the surrounding area, it is a key centre for education and training.
Like many schools in rural areas, Tweyambe School faces infrastructure challenges. A reliable energy supply and access to clean drinking water cannot always be taken for granted, even though they are essential prerequisites for teaching and day-to-day school operations.
At the same time, a school like Tweyambe School offers a unique setting for introducing young people to sustainable technologies and technical skills at an early age.
Against this backdrop, VoltaViewAfrica is supporting the school in improving its utility infrastructure whilst also using the project as a learning environment for pupils.
Our objectives
The project at Tweyambe School aims to create stable long-term conditions for teaching and learning. A reliable energy supply and clean access to drinking water make everyday school life easier and open up new learning opportunities.
At the same time, the school is intended to become a place where pupils can gain practical experience with sustainable technologies. Through direct contact with solar energy, battery storage and water treatment, they learn how such systems work and what role they can play in sustainable development.
In this way, the project combines infrastructure with education and lays the foundations for knowledge that can have an impact beyond the school and throughout the region.
Our support
VoltaViewAfrica has installed our Powerhouse system at Tweyambe School, which provides a reliable power supply and enables the production of clean drinking water.
The system is solar-powered and stores the electricity generated in sodium-ion batteries. This ensures the school has access to energy even when the public grid is unreliable.
At the same time, the Powerhouse is used to educate the pupils.
