The Watoto wa Africa Orphanage cares for children growing up without stable family support. The facility provides them with accommodation, care and access to education.
In addition to daily life together, the orphanage organises school attendance and provides basic care. For many of the children, the facility is a central source of security and structure in their daily lives.
Like many social institutions in the region, the orphanage faces infrastructural challenges. A reliable energy supply is often lacking, and access to clean drinking water is not always guaranteed.
In spring 2023, a typhoid epidemic broke out in the vicinity of the orphanage, resulting in fatalities. The situation highlighted just how important stable supply structures are for facilities such as this.
Our goals
A functioning infrastructure is crucial to ensure that care and education can continue in the orphanage in the long term. This includes, in particular, a stable energy supply and reliable access to clean drinking water.
Improvements in these areas create more stable conditions for the children’s daily lives and help to reduce health risks.

Our support
VoltaViewAfrica supports the Watoto wa Africa orphanage in improving the conditions for care and education in the long term. A particular focus is on a reliable electricity supply.
As part of the project, a solar power system has been installed, making the orphanage less dependent on unreliable electricity grids. This ensures a more reliable supply of light and energy for the facility’s daily operations, such as in the evenings, for group study sessions, or for essential routines within the orphanage.
In addition to the power supply, other areas important to the children’s daily lives are also being addressed. These include, amongst other things, access to clean drinking water.
The aim of the support is to create stable conditions so that care, learning and daily life at the orphanage can take place reliably.
