E-mobility for small boat fishermen on Lake Victoria
The Lower Saxony Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate Protection is supporting a pilot project for e-mobility for fishing boats and a solar charging station at Igombe fishing beach near Mwanza/Tanzania on the southern shore of Lake Victoria. Innovative sodium-ion battery systems developed by the Fraunhofer HHI in Goslar/Lower Saxony are being used for the first time to operate the electric motors. In addition, a training programme for young people on sustainable fishing and e-mobility will be offered as part of the project. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the local start-up social enterprise ASOBO Ltd. and St. Augustine University in Mwanza.
