February 2019

In February 2019, the team from Fraunhofer HHI, TU Clausthal and the Rotary Club of Goslar, in collaboration with the Tanzanian company JUMEME, launched the first electrification project on Kibumba Island in Lake Victoria in northwestern Tanzania.

We have installed a 2nd Life solar array with a peak power of 12 kWp and a 2nd Life lithium-ion storage with a capacity of about 70 kWh.

This mini-grid system supplies about 50 private households, an elementary school, a health clinic, and 5 freezers that can be used by fishermen to cool their fish before selling them at the market.
