Kayenze Ndogo Living Lab

In cooperation with our partners Clausthal University of Technology and Fraunhofer HHI, both Germany and the local social start-up company ASOBO Tanzania Ltd. we established a Living Lab as real-life test bed for innovative energy solutions. It is located at Kayenze Ndogo beach east of the city Mwanza at the south coast of Lake Victoria in Tanzania. The Living Lab will test and evaluate sustainable e-mobility solutions for fishing boats applying novel sodium-ion battery technology supported by digitized information technology to ensure safe and reliable operation of electrically and solar powered fishing boats on Lake Victoria.In addition to testing the new technology under real-world conditions and involving local fishers, a specially designed training program on sustainable fishing and e-mobility on the water will be offered to young people, with a focus on promoting women. Thus, the project provides new and attractive local job opportunities and therefore strengthens economic development of rural areas.
